Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced today that he secured $25,000 in state grant
Senator Flanagan (rear) joins with the officers of the East Northport Chamber of Commerce as they announce the funding for their project. The officers are (from left to right) Executive Director Sharon Moulton, 2nd Vice President Brian Valeri, President Cliff Austen, Treasurer Erwin Cohen and Past President Michael Karp.
According to the leadership of the East Northport Chamber of Commerce, the grant will be utilized to: -Replace the decorative flowers that adorn the antigue lamp posts on Larkfield Road and Laurel Road in East Northport. Each of these lamp posts have two flower pots to beautify the area and the Chamber places flowers throughout the area beginning around Memorial Day; -Offset the cost of the holiday lighting throughout the area from December through January. These festive decorations help bring holiday shoppers to the East Northport business district during the busy shopping season; and -Fund the East Northport Chamber of Commerce scholarship effort. Each year, the Chamber awards scholarships to graduating seniors who reside in the East Northport area including Northport High School, John Glenn High School and Commack High School. The scholarships acknowledge students who have demonstrated continued growth and have made consistent progress in their academic careers.
"We want to thank Senator Flanagan for his continuing support. Prior to this grant, both as a Senator and as an Assemblyman, he has been able to secure funding to our chamber and our residents," stated Michael Karp, past President of the East Northport Chamber of Commerce.
"The work that the Chamber undertakes is vital to the businesses of the area whose success is key to the economic future of the entire region. I applaud their efforts to beautify the area to bring in business and am happy to help in any way possible," stated Senator Flanagan. "Most importantly, the scholarship fund helps our young students follow their dreams and that is one of the biggest things for our area."
